Back in 2003, my husband and I got our first dog, Lucy, an English Springer Spaniel. We both had dogs growing up so how difficult could it be? Our choice of breed had its challenges but one thing I felt I needed to overcome was managing grooming Lucy. Springers love to busy themselves on a walk and manage to find the muddiest, smelliest part of a field. I took Lucy to a local groomers and not only did she seem quite anxious when she came home, the groom was pretty poor. That was when I decided to take things into my own hands, literally.

I enrolled on a part-time course at my local college which involved taking Lucy with me every Saturday for a month. I loved it! Following on from this I started grooming my parents two West Highland Terriers. In 2006, I took a two week intensive course in Dog Grooming and the rest is history.

In 2007 I set up a small grooming business which I manage along-side my work as a freelance graphic designer and I still groom dogs to this day. The Groom Room in Walgrave, Northampton is open a few days a week and it’s a hobby that has unexpectedly turned into a part-time business I absolutely love! I can combine my creative flair with my love of dogs. I pride myself in a lot of repeat business and I get to enjoy the company of some gorgeous pooches along the way.
